In the movie, young Maitreyi from a small town of Bihar is a brilliant but poor girl. She works as a domestic help in Mumbai and often dreams of catching up with her wealthy classmates who happen to be friends of the ruling class. One day she accidentally meets Ramananda, an honest watchman employed by Rahul, who falls deeply in love with him and confesses about his feelings to him on the same day as Ramananda's birthday. The next morning Rahul presents her with a new dress as an early birthday present for Ramananda. Maitreyi then realizes that Rahul doesn't really know anything about Raja or that he loves her. Rahul is in love with her but she keeps an uninterested distance. Maitreyi tries to woo Ramananda while he is working for Rahul and the latter proposes to her on the day of his birthday, but she rejects him by saying that she can't accept anything from him because he doesn't really love her. The next day, when Maitreyi goes to work at Rahul's house, she finds that he has taken ill because of the shock of not having got any reply from her regarding his proposal. She takes care of him; they end up sleeping together and get caught by Rahul's parents who suspect that they are having an affair behind their son's back. Rahul is devastated by his parents' disapproval. Maitreyi returns home to her hometown.The movie released on 23 April 2003 on the occasion of Ramanavami festival. The film recorded 23rd place in the week of release. Golden Jubilee year gave box office success while it released into theatres on 4 April 2005 on Saraswati Puja day with 50% occupancy, showing good growth over its opening day. By February 2006 it already managed 35-40%.The music was composed by Sajid-Wajid while lyrics were penned by Sameer and Nadeem Baig and was included as an extra feature in the DVD version of the film. The movie was released on DVD at the same time as the movie "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam". The film was unsuccessful at the box office.
